Grand Prix West Returning to Madison Regatta in 2017

“We’re bringing the roar back to the shore”, exclaimed Madison Regatta President Dan Cole in announcing that the supercharged hydroplanes of Grand Prix West will join the festivities for the 2017 event being held June 30-July 2.

“We’ll have the fastest boats in the world, both automotive powered as well as turbine powered at this year’s event,” Cole added. It promises to offer fans premier boat racing at its finest.”

At least 10 Grand Prix Hydroplanes are expected in Madison, returning to the event for the first time since 2014.

GPW team owner and well know Unlimited driver, Scott Pierce echoed Cole’s enthusiasm, ” We are excited to be coming back. We made a lot of friends two years ago and I know our teams are really pumped!”

The Grand Prix’s will race on a 1.25 mile oval and Cole’s plans are to bring the boats closer to the Indiana shore to heighten the fans experience, “they can feel the noise!”

Madison will be the first stop on the GPW circuit in 2017, as its schedule unfolds in the coming weeks.

“There will some other announcements in the coming weeks,” Pierce added. “But we wanted Madison to be the first one announced.”

The GPW teams will rely upon Independent Grand Prix teams to complete its field of entries, making for a highly competitive event. These 26-foot long boats boast supercharged V-8 automotive engines which are capable of reaching straightaway speeds in excess of 175 miles an hour.
